Kaleidoscope

Yad va-Shem

This is just a brief entry to explain the picture in the header of this website.

In 2007, my wife and I were blessed with a trip to Israel. A strong memory for both of us was a visit to Yad va-Shem, Israel's Holocaust museum.

You could easily spend more than a day at the museum - we had about 2 hours - still long enough to feel ill with graphic, unabridged information-overload.

Probably most sobering was the memorial to the children lost or killed during the war. The memorial is simply a huge, dark room filled with mirrors. Somewhere in the room are just a few candles, but its almost impossible to tell where the real candles are, as you are completely surrounded by their eerie reflections. You're standing in a massive kaleidoscope. That is what the photo is of.

A voice somberly states the name, age and birthplace of some 1 million children. It takes something like 3 months to get through the list, and the recording starts again.

Unforgettable.

Just out of curiosity... are you the same Matt Bodman that was calling me for NexGen support, when I worked for PSi?

I'm looking for you, mate. Just wanted to touch base with you, and see how you and yours are doing.

Cheers,

AK
