Where I work, we spent a fortune on a Klotz digital audio distrubution system, German designed, and used in a lot of radio stations the world over.  Its been fantastic.  We have 10 studios, and hundreds of audio sources and destinations - the system routes it all wherever we want without degradation or noticable delay.  In fact, upon a single core of fibre cable can travel 256 channels of 24bit 48kHz stereo audio.  It's really cool.

Whenever I'm flying somewhere, I sometimes pass the time by making something in Flash.  It keeps my brain agile, and usually prevents the people sitting next to me from trying to engage in any kind of conversation.

So my latest Flash thing is a clock screensaver.  It will work on any phone with Flash Lite 1.1 or higher and a screen size of 240 x 320 px.  Careful, its a whopping 4.02kb!!  You can download it below by doing the right-click thing, or just click it to see it work in your browser.

I'm writing this on a flight to Darwin.  Darwin is where I spent the first 14 months or so of my marriage.  I had many experiences there I'll never forget.  One was cutting paw-paws off a tree in the middle of a cyclone to impress my new wife.  Another was winning a Radio Award for best Australian Provincial Producer.  Becoming a Dad, sunsets at Mindil Beach, singing a solo at the city's Carols by Candlelight, riding bicycles everywhere because we didn't have a car – it was a rich 14 months.

In 2007, my wife and I were blessed with a trip to Israel. A strong memory for both of us was a visit to Yad va-Shem, Israel's Holocaust museum.

You could easily spend more than a day at the museum - we had about 2 hours - still long enough to feel ill with graphic, unabridged information-overload.

So I'm shopping for music in Bangalore, India and I come across these MP3 CD's for about 5 bucks. 50 mp3's for 5 bucks! I can't believe my luck. I buy the best of 80's and 90's. Too cool.

I've been travelling a bit over the last few years and shopping with a different currency is always a challenge. The trip I'm on as I write this has been particularly challenging.

India - the Rupee is 34 to 1 Australian Dollar. Unless you have the mind of Steven Hawking and the composure of a Miss Universe contestent, you will be taken for a ride, and I'm not speaking of a rickshaw.

Its a Sunday afternoon and I've just been sifting through some old DAT's I found. Oh the memories...

I have a bunch of DAT's, CD's and 1/4" tape left over from my heady radio days when I produced commercials and other bits that most people who listen to the radio couldn't care less about.

Ok, so I had a bunch of Drupal sites to migrate from my old web host to my new one - Media-Temple. English words cannot describe how much more satisfied I am with (mt) compared with my old, nameless host. Just imagine me floating dreamily in a lake of Lindt chocolate - you get the idea. It took me a while to get the info together, so here's my experience in brief:

Every now and then, I mix sound for a reasonably large - let's call it - club. This club holds meetings in a basketball stadium which has been acoustically treated by use of theatre drapes. As effective as the drapes are, the bottom-end of the audio spectrum in this predomenantly concrete building was just out of control. The kick drum sounded like Godzilla had just shown up, the bass guitar like a dying blue whale. Everything else was rockin'. All was as good as I could hope it to be. The crowd seemed to be enjoying things too.

I can't confirm that he wears glasses or watches Star Trek, but I'm convinced he shows some other classic symptoms of pure nerdism.
